Military Sunglasses
Where It All Began
Military sunglasses are often referred to as aviator sunglasses as they were first used by aviators back in the 1930′s.
The large lenses were designed to give optimal vision to pilots, and the polarized lenses provided the maximum protection from the glare of the sun and its damaging UV rays.
Other military and law enforcement groups soon discovered the benefits of this style of eyewear with the wide area of coverage helping to keep the dirt and dust out of their eyes. They were soon adopted as a standard piece of kit.
The Fashion Statement
Their popularity increased dramatically after the release of the hit movie Top Gun, and suddenly all the guys wanted to look like Tom Cruise.
It seemed the girls just couldn’t resist a guy wearing military sunglasses, and soon sales began to rocket.
